Eden's room is so fun. I love decorating it because everything in it is bright and cheery. I had the idea to do this over the crib pom pom party thing in our last place but didn't know how to put it all together. I found 3M hooks that won't leave holes in my ceiling so I was all set to finish my idea in our new house. I just reworked the Chinese lanterns with the big colorful tissue pom poms we made for Eden's birthday party.
The block letters were 2 dollars each from Joanns and I painted them the colors I wanted. (Click on my nursery posts to see where I got inspired for this cute off centered idea:)
I found these wooden blocks for 2.50 in Target's dollar section!
It is fun to start over and try to recreate a space. I am still not quite finished with the shelves on the other side of the room but pictures will come soon.
This room is all budget friendly. I mean really budget friendly... just proof again that you don't need to spend a lot of money to create a fun space.
I found these chairs at DI (thrift) for 5 dollars each!
I love the rustic wood but I can't help thinking how awesome they would look painted a bright color.
The pillows actually aren't pillows at all. They are place mats bought at Tai Pan for 3 dollars each and I stuffed them. They match our tree skirt!

Step one: I took a dollar store stocking that we used last year and traced around it on a double layer of felt.
Step two: I cut out around the trace leaving an extra half inch or so.
Step three: I pulled out all kinds of scrap fabric and trimming.
Step four: I added the trimming and sewed it on to one side of the stocking.
Step five: with the right sides of the fabric facing each other I sewed the stocking together.
Step six: I sewed the trimming on the top.
Step seven: I cut out a strip of felt with angles at the ends
Step eight: I sewed a piece of red ribbon down the center.
Step nine: With angled ends touching I attached my loop to the inside seam of the stocking.
Hooray!
I was a little intimidated to start this project, I had high hopes and wasn't sure I could reach them.... I'm so glad I tried. It really feels good to make something completely yourself.
Okay I am a perfectionist and I am always wanting to make things better. But I decided that I better post this now "unfinished" or else I never will.
The baby is due in 16 days and I can't wait! I really wanted her room to be all "kid", really bright and easy to organize.
Her crib was a KSL Classifieds find. 90 dollars for the crib, mattress and changing table. I love the classic look of it and the clean lines. I originally was looking for a Jenny Lind crib but I like this one even more.
The blanketunder the polka dots was mine when I was a baby. I never dragged it around so it is still in good shape.
The shelf's I found at a thrift store, 2 dollars each.
I painted the letter 'A' onto a canvas.
Brent cut out and made the turtle out of felt and I framed it behind scrapbook paper.
The wooden letters are from Walmart, 1.97 ea.
The books are "vintage". Mrs. Piggle Wiggle in purple hardback was an ultimate find for .10 cents at the Manti library.
The pillows I made myself (looking closely you can tell) and then hand stitched felt flowers and birds on them.
This sweet dress was worn by my mother and the pursewas my grandmas. (If you look closely you can see Mickey and Mini)
I spray painted this shelf white, a thrift store find.
The books are the Wizard of OZ series from my Grammy, printed in the 50's. I read them all growing up and I LOVE them!!!
I got the Chinese lanterns at Party Land for 8 dollars.
And I found the globe at Ross for 15. I don't know why, but I felt like I needed a globe, it just inspires creativity and adventure in me.

The blanket was handmade by my friend Marinda. I just love it.
I have burp clothes in the wicker basket, the frame on the bottom is vintage Winnie the Pooh from Erika, and the book is from Janet.

Covering the rocker was not as hard as I thought, thanks to my mother in-law Janet!!
She helped me sew covers and Brent and I just unscrewed the foot stool and covered it.

A room can be really unique if you try to add elements that mean something to you. I loved incorporating my old blanket and my favorite books into the room.
With this project I didn't worry too much about matching. I didn't want a crib "set" because I felt that I would have to tone down patterns in other places of the room. I think it can be fun to mismatch things that "go" together. Ex: White furniture (not a set but all white) or bright colors (not all the same patterns but in the same color scheme).
A room can be a process, this one is definitely a process for me. Take your time Don't break the bank trying to get it all finished just add items as you go.
I was asked the other day where some good places to shop are. Here are some ideas:
Salvation Army: We don't have one around here but my sister in Michigan does and they are all over California too. I always find great things there. SalvationArmyUSA
Deseret Industries-Utah: There are a few of these thrift stores outside of Utah, I just happen to live near two. I have found clocks, lamps, dishes, brand new books and much more at DI and I love it. Take the time to look around and you won't be sorry. About Deseret Industries
Local Garage Sales: If you look on KSL(Utah) under "Announcements" and click on "Garage, Estate, and Yard Sales" you can get a listing of local garage sales for the upcoming week. Garage Sales are awesome because prices are generally lower and you can find some really awesome things. On Craigs list look under "For Sale" and Click on "garage sale". Generally you can get furnature and other items cheaper at a garage sale than Craigs List or thrift stores.
Consignment Shops: A nick nack Gold mine! There are so many intersting peices to be found at consignment shops. I have found some of the most intersting jewelery there. The best way to find these shops is to look them up in the phone book. Many times they are not listed inder "thrift" so you have to do a little more searching.
Flea Markets/ Swap Meets: My favorite kind of treasure hunt. I wish there were more Flea Markets in Utah. Just Google 'flea markets and (your state or town)'. I found this great website that lists a few in Utah: Keysfleamarket.com
Any Thrift Store: Google thrift stores in your local area and you would be very surprised to see how many there are that you may have missed.
Craigs List: I try to look on this site regularly. There are several categories so you can stalk the items you like. This is a great place to find furniture of all kinds.CraigsList
KSL Classifieds-Utah: This website is great. I like it because it lists items with a picture next to the description so you can scan through it pretty quickly. I looked on KSL everyday for about a week and a half before finding the exact crib that I loved. It was fantastic white crib, changing table, and mattress for 90.00! Totally worth the 5 minutes of searching I did for a week and a half. KSLClassifieds
I originally found a similar headband at here for a pretty penny more. You have an eye for a bargain. You decide between the two. If you are like me you want to look like a million dollars but never spend that much. Happy deal hunting.
Sophie's Tip: Always check cheaper fashion stores for a similar idea of what you like, especially with accessories! You may save a bundle and at the end of the day both head bands may hurt your temples but at you got yours for a steal.
Sophie's Tip: Thrift stores are GREAT places to find unique dishes. Sometimes I only find one of a kind but many times I have found at least 4 of a set. This is a really fun and cheap way to expand your dish collection... plus you know what's in the cupboard is uniquely yours.
Think of fauna (the green one) saying the title of this blog and then crunching 3 eggs into her cake batter. Out of all of these fairies I by far relate to her the most.
